Gillian Flaxman

Gillian has served as Head of the British Council School since 2010 until the present, as well as from 2001- 2006.  Her interest in teaching and education began at the University of Granada during the exciting period of Spain’s political transition. Prior to holding her current position, she was Deputy Head of the British Council School, Head of the British Council School in Alicante (1999-2000), and the Director of the American School of Valencia (1992-1999). She has also been an advisor for the training of teachers for the Education Council of the Valencian Regional Authorities (1985-1991) and President of the Mediterranean Association of International Schools. She holds a degree in Language and Interpretation and Translation from Heriot-Watt University, a PGCE in English as a Second Language and Modern Languages, ESL\EFL, French and Spanish from the UCNW Bangor, and a Diploma inSmall and Medium Business Managementfrom the Valencia Polytechnic University of Valencia. She is also an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in recognition of her dedication to the educational sector and international cultural relations.
