Nigel Thrift

Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Warwick

Professor Nigel Thrift has been Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Warwick since 2006. He has been particularly active in establishing Warwick’s international profile. He has also been instrumental in building on Warwick’s strong links with business and industry, both nationally and internationally.

Professor Thrift joined Warwick from the University of Oxford where he was made Head of the Division of Life and Environmental Sciences in 2003 before becoming Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research in 2005.

Professor Thrift was made a Fellow of the British Academy in 2003 and appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for the West Midlands in 2014. He was knighted for his services to higher education in the New Year’s Honours List 2015. He received an Honorary LLD from the University of Bristol in 2010 and an Honorary LLD from Monash University in 2013. Professor Thrift is a member of the Governing Board of the European Institute for Innovation and Technology, and a Commissioner of the Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission.
